Villa La Californie

Overlooking the bay of Cannes from Le Suquet. In the background the hills of the district of California, which gave its name to the villa.
California is a villa of the architectural heritage of Cannes, built in 1920 in the neighborhood of the same name. Residence of Pablo Picasso from 1955 to 1961, the house is also known as the Villa Fenelon and now bears the name Pavillon de Flore.

==History==
Eugene Tripet (1816-1896), consul of France in Moscow moved to Cannes in 1848 with his wife Alexandra Feodorovna Skrypitzine (1818-1895), wealthy Russian heiress friend of Prosper Mérimée. He built the "Villa Alexandra" on the heights of the city overlooking the Cape of the Croisette facing the Lérins Islands. The villa is quickly surrounded by the residences of many representatives of the Russian aristocracy immigrants in Cannes and the area is nicknamed "Little Russia". In 1903, his son, General Vicomte de Salignac Fenelon acquired the northern part of the garden of the villa and orders a winter residence project to the architect Champagne H. Piquart . Only in 1920 did he realize the project commissioned before the War and who takes the name of "Villa Fenelon."
Pablo Picasso bought the house in 1955 and moved there with Jacqueline Roque. The photographer Lucien Clergue is the witness of the life of the painter in "California". This is the workshop he painted in 1958, the Bay of Cannes where he represents the seascape strangled by the urban environment. In 1961, construction of a new building concealing the sea view decides to look for another place. He leaves the house in Cannes and moved to Mougins where he spent his last years. During the inventory of the estate of the painter, many previously unknown works are found in the house and are the subject of Pablo Picasso dation 1979 behind the national museum which bears his name. His granddaughter, Marina Picasso inherits "California" realize the restoration work in 1987 and renamed the "Pavillon de Flore". It is located 22-Coste Belle Avenue.

==Cultural==
The house is a private property registered in 2001 in the general inventory of cultural heritage in the region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur under the Census seaside heritage Cannes.
